Berkata Canal Project and Supporting the Afghans

We thank the UAE for supporting the Afghan people through agricultural projects that could be exploited in the future for external export.

Bertaka delivers water to 300 farms, reducing farmers' expenses by 50 percent, as farmers used fuel water pumps to pump water from the Helmand River to some farms.

Bertaka canal has been completely completed since 2020/02.

The canal was drilled 18 km long from the canal and with a width of (4) Meters and depth (2.5) meters.

Before the canal, farmers in the region relied on agriculture only once in winter due to water problems, but now they have water, leading to increased production by farmers, harvesting winter and spring crops and now harvesting summer and autumn crops.

Wheat, barley and opium have been grown in winter, and vegetables and fruits such as bamia, eggplant, cucumber, tomatoes, pumpkin, corn, watermelon, cotton, peanuts and sunflowers are now grown, and others are not yet ready.
