UAE and Israel sign agreement to cooperate on stem cell research

  Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre and Pluristem Therapeutics Inc. signed an MoU The Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre (ADSSC) has signed a MoU with Israeli firm Pluristem Therapeutics Inc. to collaborate on R&D of services and products related to regenerative medicine, including those that can be used to combat the Covid-19 pandemic With this collaboration, both the UAE and Israel will rely on the expertise of each other in cell therapies to deliver solutions around regenerative medicine.   The world’s first Phase III trials of an inactivated vaccine for COVID-19 being held in the United Arab Emirates have reached a major milestone with over 5000 volunteers have now received their first vaccination. A sense of nationwide pride and shared commitment has led to over 80 nationalities in the community already volunteering to participate, inspired by the UAE Leadership’s commitment to overcoming the pandemic through a global collaborative effort. The UAE has successfully conducted its first ever bone marrow transplant.

This comes after an announcement made by the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre (ADSCC) which has also inaugurated the Abu Dhabi Bone Marrow Transplant programme The recent procedure was performed on a patient with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer in the blood. The successful transplant was the result of a collaboration between ADSCC and Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and it represents a groundbreaking advancement for cancer patients living in the UAE. The unique treatment procedure harvests peripheral blood stem cells from the patient, who then undergoes a high-dose of chemotherapy to eradicate all cancerous cells and most of the bone marrow. This demonstrated ADSCC's continued commitment to delivering evidence-based services to the UAE market, including an array of stem cell therapies like the UAECell19 treatment for COVID-19 patients.

The unique treatment procedure developed by ADSCC involved harvesting peripheral blood stem cells from the patient, who then underwent high-dose chemotherapy to eradicate all cancerous cells and most of the bone marrow.  The harvested stem cells were then infused back into the bloodstream, where they restore the destroyed cells and over the course of two weeks restart the production of healthy non-malignant blood cells.

UAE announces successful operation of first nuclear energy reactor in Barakah

With the Unit 1 of the Power Plant operational, UAE will be the first Arab country to use nuclear energy to meet its sustainable energy needs. Sheikh Mohammed said the goal is to operate four nuclear power stations that will provide a quarter of the state's need for electricity in a safe, reliable and emission-free way. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, said the country has made a 'quantum leap' in the UAE energy sector and an important step on the road to sustainable development.
